Magical wonderland- Khirai

Bengal travel Diary

I am constantly documenting and exploring one-day trips from Kolkata as well as weekend destinations from Kolkata. I have seen and come across some places in this endeavor that are absolutely beautiful rural Bengal gems. The Garden at Khirai is one such example.

So in this context, I would recommend you to browse my journey today trips/ weekend destinations to BarantiPurbasthali, Bishnupur and Gongoni. There is so much to see in this state much similar to like the Northern Karnataka architectural circuit of Hampi and Badami.

Khirai, flower garden of Bengal

Panskura and Khirai, two regions of West Bengal produce some of the best ornamental flowers like Chrysanthemum, Karen and Marigold for the whole of West Bengal and neighboring states. In fact, the seeds of these flowers reach far lands of Uttar Pradesh as well, where they are also cultivated.

How to reach Khirai

Khirai is easily accessible from Kolkata . Khirai by train is a good option for many. Khirai by road is a two-hour drive from Kolkata to Panskura and then a 10 min diversion through the village to reach the farmlands near the railway bridge.

Wintry mornings in Khirai

Khirai best time to visit

Winter, is the season when Khirai blooms to her full glory. Known as the Valley of Flowers of West Bengal popularly, the farmlands are like a picnic destination for the locals who live here. In recent years, this place has gained popularity, attracting visitors from Kolkata as well. The farmlands located along with the Kangsabati river banks glitter like pearls on a necklace in the winter haze of the afternoon sun.

I reached here quite early before the crowds came in. The entire landscape was dotted with flowers and a railway bridge running arrow-straight through the landscape. For the farmers who toil in these farms, Khirai flower cultivation represents months of dedication and hard work to make something bloom in sync with nature.
